Little Dribblers

To encourage our youngest players to focus on fundamental ball-handling skills in the off-season, the HBA will be sponsoring the "Little Dribblers Club". The club is open to all in-house players registered in HBA (or will be registered in their first year of eligibility) who will be entering grades K through 3 next fall.

Each player will record the number of minutes spent practicing basic ball handling skills each off-season, from April 1st to October 15th. As the players accumulate parent certified minutes of practice during the "off-season" they will be recognized for their dedication to improvement and joy of basketball by receiving a Little Dribblers Club T-Shirt.

For example, when a player accumulates 400 minutes, they become an entry level member of the Little Dribblers Club. Their dedication to off-season development will be rewarded with a shirt recognizing them as a member of the "Little Dribblers Club". All Little Dribblers Club members will be recognized during the halftime of a Girls/Boys Varsity basketball game each year. At that game the players that have earned recognition status will be presented with their "Little Dribblers Club" T-Shirt.

Players are asked to chart minutes practiced on the "Little Dribblers Club Practice Chart". Players and their parents are asked to validate the number of minutes practiced during the off season by signing the bottom of the chart. Practice minutes will be certifiable if the Little Dribbler is actively, creatively and playfully engaged in basic basketball and/or ball handling skills and drills, including playing games with friends/siblings/parents. The ultimate goal is to get your Little Dribbler comfortable and confident with a basketball in their hands, able to utilize both their right and left hand equally effectively by the time they are introduced to real game situations.

Refer to our links page for ideas of some practical drills your Little Dribbler should try to master.

A player must be a registered member of HBA (i.e. participating in the in-house league) in order to receive recognition as a member of the Little Dribblers Club. If you have any questions, please contact us.
